Afghanistan: 4 killed, 4 injured in road accident

Four people were killed and four others injured in a road accident on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Zabul province, Afghanistan, on Saturday.

The Taliban-run Zabul provincial police media office said in a statement that the accident occurred after a Land Cruiser overturned in the Taza Rabat area of Shahjoy district.

The Taliban confirmed the death toll and said that the four injured occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Zabul provincial hospital. There was no word on the condition of the injured.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Road accidents are a major problem in Afghanistan, where poor road conditions, reckless driving, and a lack of traffic enforcement contribute to high death tolls.

In 2022, more than 1,000 people were killed and nearly 4,000 others injured in road accidents in Afghanistan.
